Teaching Philosophy

I firmly believe in nurturing a positive learning environment for students to confidently pursue their personal musical goals. I mentor my students to develop inquisitive minds that will intrinsically motivate them to become courageous and purposeful musicians, free to be innovative, versatile and life-long learners in today’s global musical landscape. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to instill independence and confidence in students so they can discover their own voice.

As a clarinet teacher, I value building a solid foundation in the areas of tone, technique, rhythm, pitch, and articulation through personally demonstrating on the instrument and sharing the art of analytical and innovative practice methods.   As an artist, I strive to guide each student to become more aware of music’s complexities that are informed by the study of theory, history, with considerations to traditions in musical styles and awareness of contemporary advancements in today’s performance practice.
